Natural & Organic Awards
Hosted in association with the Soil Association and Natural Products Magazine, the Natural & Organic Awards, over the last fifteen years, have become a benchmark for excellence and set a standard for innovation, quality and commitment in the natural and organic sector. Ecosoapia is proud to have this award.
The Soil Association has probably the highest and most comprehensive standards for organic production and processing in the world. Our standards not only meet the UK government's minimum requirements but in many areas are higher.
Fairtrade is a strategy for poverty alleviation and sustainable development. Its purpose is to create opportunities for producers and workers who have been economically disadvantaged or marginalized by the conventional trading system. If fair access to markets under better trade conditions would help them to overcome barriers to development, they can join Fairtrade.
This award is intended for products that may generally benefit allergy sufferers and improve their state of health and wellbeing or for people who wish to reduce their chemical load.
Products displaying this logo have been assessed by our panel of advisors and the appropriate type of allergy expert to confirm its suitability. The logo gives a clear indication that the product has our award.
This award includes products which previously had the Consumer Award and Chemically Friendly Award.
The Humane Cosmetics Standard HCS
Many people are unaware that hundreds of thousands of animals across the world still endure painful experiments to test cosmetics, toiletries, household products and their ingredients. We aim to drive animal testing out of the cosmetics and household products industries altogether.
In 1996 an international coalition of animal protection groups from Europe and North America, including the British Union for the Abolition of Vivisection (BUAV) launched the world's only internationally recognised scheme that enables consumers to easily identify and purchase cruelty free products. In the UK this scheme is known as: The Humane Cosmetics Standard (HCS) its symbol is the Leaping Bunny.
The Coalition for Consumer Information on Cosmetics’ (CCIC) Leaping Bunny Program administers a cruelty-free standard and the internationally recognized Leaping Bunny Logo for companies producing cosmetic, personal care, and household products. The Leaping Bunny Program provides the best assurance that no new animal testing is used in any phase of product development by the company, its laboratories, or suppliers.
The application process takes 6 weeks and involves our research teams analysing each applicant company’s record on up to 15 specific criteria under the 3 general headings of Environment, Animals and People. We search for criticisms within several thousand documents from NGO’S, Campaign Groups and Court Reports. Ethical Accreditation screening includes the applicant company and its ultimate holding company. The research is repeated every 12 months to ensure that our Ethical Accreditation awards remain up to date.
Successful Ethical Accreditation earns an Ethical Award for those applicant Companies that score highly (top 33%) overall compared to the other Companies in their sector. Larger Companies can get a good advance understanding of where they are likely to come in their product sector rankings by seeing how we score them in our ethical reference book, The Good Shopping Guide.
